Description
Pan, god of the wild, was known to have a beard, with horns, legs and hooves of a goat. Even so, he was still a brilliant musician, and was invited to play for the gods at a banquet. At the banquet, the sound of his flute attracted the attention of the monster Typhoon. As the gods attempted to escape in the forms of animals, Pan jumped into the Nile and transformed himself into a fish. Yet, because he was too anxious, only his bottom half became the tails of a fish, and his upper half still retained the form of a goat. This is how the legend of Capricorn came to be.
