The Legend of the Treasure Bowl:
The Treasure Bowl is a precious object which is often mentioned in folk stories. The story 
originated in the “Collection of Strange Stories under the Lantern Light” by Ren-Long Zhou:
The story goes that in the early years of the Ming Dynasty there was a man whose name 
was Shen Wan-san who once saw a fisherman selling frogs while strolling through a market. 
He pitied the hundreds of frogs which were about to be slaughtered. He therefore bought all 
of the frogs and set them free into a pond. On the evening of the next day, he heard the 
croaking of frogs outside the building. The croaking was so loud that he couldn't fall asleep. 
When he went outside to take a look in the early morning, he saw a large number of frogs 
located around a clay basin. He found this strange, but didn't give it much thought and took 
the bowl into the house to serve as a washing basin. 

One day, Shen Wan-san's wife carelessly dropped a silver hairpin into the basin. Shen Wan-
san's noticed in amazement that the hairpins started to multiply. As soon as Shen Wan-san 
realized that the basin had magic powers, he started to put copper coins into the basin. Later 
he substituted silver for the copper coins and finally he replaced the silver with gold. The basin 
turned Shen Wan-san into a fabulously rich man.
